Original 1978 promo poster for the Ramones’ Road to Ruin, signed by John Holmstrom in 2012. Holmstrom, editor of Punk magazine and a friend of the Ramones, accomplished this illustration for the band’s 1978 album. An essential designer of the unfolding punk aesthetic, Holmstrom was the American counterpart to the UK’s Jamie Reid.
While the original mockup by Gus Macdonald included the original drummer Tommy Ramone, Holmstrom altered the album cover, as in this poster, to show Marky Ramone, his replacement.
