Two posters promoting performances by Wencke Mühleisen. Mühleisen was known for her shocking, transgressive performances in which she would bare herself naked on stage, paint her genitals red, and feign intercourse. Her focus was on the politics of the body, sex, and gender.

Between 1976 and 1985, Wühleisen was part of the Austrian Friedrichshof collective, a left libertarian radical collective movement that became better known as a cult. Wühleisen left due to its ironically authoritarian demands that every member have sex with each other and that children be separated from their parents. Founder Otto Muehl was eventually accused and imprisoned for the sexual abuse of children.

These first poster promotes Narcissus, a one woman show by Wencke Mühleisen at the Liljevalchs gallery in Stockholm under the name Grevinnan Sophink [Countess Sophink]. The poster promotes Mühleisen’s scandalous performances, promising that she returns to Denmark to further damage her reputation.

The second poster promotes a performance by Wencke Mühleisen at the Liljevalchs gallery in Stockholm, produced by Cirkus I Stan [Circus in Town], in late May and early June of 1981.
