An energetic photo of Freddie Hubbard on his trumpet. A singular talent with a unique sound, Hubbard was indispensable to the development of the genre. He replaced Lee Morgan in Art Blakey’s Messengers, and went on to play on ten of their greatest records. By the late 1960s, he straddled the worlds of tonal jazz and the avant-garde New Music.
