Mad … About the Boy! LP
Hollywood: Camp Records, ca. 1964–1965. 12 in.-vinyl record in sleeve. 33 1/3 RPM. 12 x 12 in. Record and sleeve in used condition, upper and lower seams split. Item #7247
The second LP released by the queer novelty label Camp Records, featuring popular Broadway and cabaret songs, originally sung by women, here performed by men.
The liner notes, addressed “to whom it may concern,” state: “The primary reason for doing this album, was to prove that good songs could and should be sung by everyone. Gender, should not be the determining factor as to who should sing what.” The lyrics preserve the pronouns of their original compositions, rendering an explicitly queer performance of these otherwise anodyne, straight love songs.
