Poster promoting “Finally I Am A Fascist,” a performance by Wencke Mühleisen at the Aktuel Art Gallery in Stockholm. Mühleisen was known for her shocking, transgressive performances in which she would bare herself naked on stage, paint her genitals red, and feign intercourse. Her focus was on the politics of the body, sex, and gender, here elevated to a distressing reflection on fascism.

Between 1976 and 1985, Wühleisen was part of the Austrian Friedrichshof collective, a left libertarian radical collective movement that became better known as a cult. Wühleisen left due to its ironically authoritarian demands that every member have sex with each other and that children be separated from their parents. Founder Otto Muehl was eventually accused and imprisoned for the sexual abuse of children.

In the mid-1990s Mühleiser completed a PhD in media and communications at the University of Oslo, establishing herself as a researcher, and effectively retiring as performance artist.
