Item #5839 Who Picked This Man?

Who Picked This Man?

[Los Angeles]: Rockshots, Inc, 1982. Size M. Very good. Item #5839

T-shirt attacking Ronald Reagan, the famous homophobe and President of the United States, whose denials of the AIDS crisis killed thousands of people. This shirt was released by the publishers of BLK a few years before its founding BLK was published from 1988 to 1994 devoted to the coverage of the issues relevant to a Black LBGTQ readership.

Rockshots, Inc. and BLK were founded by Alan Bell who at the time was hosting safe sex parties for gay Black men in Los Angeles and who had founded and published Gaysweek (1977-1979), the first mainstream gay publication founded by a Black person. BLK was known for its hard news approach and published interviews with Audre Lorde, Phil Wilson, Marlon Riggs and many others.

A rare shirt in excellent condition ridiculing the presidency of a homophobic, racist, imperialist D-list actor, produced by one of the most important Black gay publishers of the 20th Century.
