This book belongs to the series Street Design File, which presents design fieldwork with the intention of counteracting what Tsuzuki describes as the “dead-ended design community.” Voice of Africa: Disguised Radios in South Africa documents radios built by South Africans during their mid-1990’s election cycle. The radios were built to be disguised as other objects such as brightly-painted artworks or toy cars so as not to be confiscated in government raids. Using these disguised radios, South Africans could listen to independent broadcasts which disseminated useful information about the elections and government corruption.
