Not Us / Not Them
New York: Boo-Hooray and Existencil Press, 2011. 7’’ EP in illustrated sleeve, with printed lyrics sheet. Item #3984
Not Us / Not Them is a recording of two poems read by Crass co-founder Penny Rimbaud, accompanied on the saxophone with former Laughing Clown’s Louise Elliott. Evoking the general atmosphere of the Beat poets with the combination of jazz and spoken word, Rimbaud’s “Oh America” reads as a personal response to (or continuation of) Allen Ginsberg’s “Howl,” while “Not They” is a weary challenge towards political indifference.
Published jointly by Boo-Hooray and Exitstencil Press in an edition of 500 copies, on the occasion of Boo-Hooray’s exhibition “In All Our Decadence People Die.”.
