Shortlist #60: George A. Romero and his Pittsburgh Collaborators
Boo-Hooray is pleased to present our 60th shortlist on the work of George A. Romero and his Pittsburgh Collaborators. The shortlist gathers gathers scripts and production materials from a crucial figure of American independent and horror cinema, documenting the creative development and production of some of his most celebrated works, along with materials from the wider Pittsburgh film community which he nurtured and worked in. Romero is best known for laying the foundation for the modern horror genre—particularly zombie films. His 1968 film Night of the Living Dead is celebrated as a landmark of horror film that invented the modern zombie. For Romero, the zombie film was not just the good fun of blood and guts, but could also serve as a subversive cultural critique of mass society.
