Friend of Adorno and former assistant to Fritz Lang, Alexander Kluge was one of the principle members of the New German Cinema scene, along with Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Wim Wenders, and Werner Herzog. A critic, philosopher, film theorist, and filmmaker, he has written widely on cinema and art, and is the author of many works of fiction and intermedia. Anita G., known at times under the film’s original name Abschied von Gestern or its English name Yesterday Girl, is a 1966 film about a woman’s journey immigrating from East to West Germany.
