Stop the Terror in Chile

[n.p.]: Young Workers Liberation League, 1970-1980. Suzanne Simon. Item #POS146

Printed by the the artist Suzanne Simon for the Young Workers Liberation League, a Marxist-Leninist youth organization founded in the 1920s, this poster protested the dictatorship of Pinochet and the ensuing terror, incarceration, and torture his government imposed on the people of Chile.

In 1973 (with the help of the U.S. Government) Pinochet overthrew the communist government of Salvador Allende, and proceeded to institute purges which disappeared, tortured, incarcerated, and exiled thousands of Chileans. Torture and sexual abuse of prisoners was rampant, and state-violence took on indescribably horrible proportions. This poster illustrates the plight of political prisoners of the Pinochet government and asks all to write the department of state and demand of U.S. politicians cut off aid to the Chilean government, and pressure them to free all political prisoners.
