This book was written by Anti-Vietnam War protest leader Abbie Hoffman in 1970 while incarcerated. It was initially rejected by mainstream publishers, which prompted Hoffman to start his own publishing company—Pirate Editions—in 1971. Distributed by Barney Rosset’s Grove Press, it went on to sell more than a quarter million copies and was one of the most influential texts for the countercultural movements of the early 70s. Each chapter focuses on different forms of activism and the various ways in which one can undermine and over-throw the government, making it extremely popular amongst the student revolutionaries at that time. The book eventually made the best-sellers list and remains an important material testament to the anti-Vietnam war ethos.
