This book belongs to the series Street Design File, and presents design fieldwork with the intention of counteracting what Tsuzuki describes as the “dead-ended design community.” In Souvenirs from Hell: Paper Offerings in Hong Kong Tsuzuki lays out a colorful documentation of chichaat: paper-constructed replications of quotidien objects like food, ceremonial dress, and more recently technology and modern fashion. Chichaat are traditionally burned as offerings during religious observations such as funerals and festivals in China, and act as a link between this world and the next.
