The Outsider was a 1960s literary magazine published by Loujon Press. Contributors to the magazine include William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, Joel Oppenheimer, Henry Miller, and LeRoi Jones, as well as many others associated with the beat movement and the 1960s underground. The magazine was edited by Jon Edgar Webb and his wife Gypsy Lou Webb, who also started the Loujon Press. With only five issues published, this grouping comprises a complete run (the last issue being a double issue). The first issue of the publication was printed using a C&P hand press with hand set type in their New Orleans apartment, taking nine months. Subsequent issues, printed on an automated press, continued to be assembled by hand in the couples’ apartment. The hardcover edition of issues 4 and 5 includes a laid-in hand pressed flower made by Gypsy Lou, part of the limited 500 copy run of this edition. [dl].
