Program for the second weekly Film-maker’s Showcase held on February 11, 1963 at Bleecker Street Cinema. Billed as “Absurd, Chance, Zen Etc Poetry.”
The program for the evening included short films by Bhob Stewart, Ray Wisniewski, Ken Jacobs, Bob Fleishner, Jack Smith, and Ron Rice. Jonas Mekas writes in his introduction that these films “rediscover the poetry and wisdom of the irrational, of nonsense, of the insignificant, of the absurd -- they attack and destroy in us the false, the pretentious, the contrived, the phony.”
Held every Monday at midnight from February to May 1963, the Film-maker’s Showcase screened experimental films distributed by the Film-maker’s Cooperative. Mekas first announced the series in his January 24 column in the Village Voice. .
