The concert raised awareness and funds for sickle cell anemia research - the flyer includes a definition of anemia in the bottom right corner. Ray Pino was a jazz promoter in Baltimore who worked diligently to bring jazz musicians to the city. He also directed the 1967-1968 Laurel Jazz Festival, and was an advisor to the Left Bank Jazz Society.
