New York: The Merce Cunningham Studio, 1973. Offset. 8 ½ x 11 in. Very good, with lines from folding for mailing. Annotation in red ink to verso in unknown hand. Item #6713

Flyer for a performance by the experimental theatrical, music, and ballet collective Zaj. Formed in Milan in 1959 by Spanish artist Juan Hidalgo and concrete music pioneer Walter Marchetti, Zaj briefly toured the United States in the early-70s with the assistance of John Cage. The performance of “this little esoteric ballet of everyday gestures taken out of context”--as the flyer quotes a reviewer’s description–at Cunningham’s studio evidenced the thorough intermingling of experimental music, theater, performance, and dance in New York in the 1970s.
