Flyer promoting an exhibition of paintings by Carl Apfelschmitt at Limelight’s church tower, hosted by editor Ira Silverberg and photographer Kate Simon, both renown in their fields and active in the scene. Apfelschmitt was best known for his abstract paintings, the thick, poured surfaces of which were often marked by cracks and craters. He was active in the 1980s Downtown art scene and close to famous figures such as William Burroughs until his death from an AIDS-related illness in 1990.
