[uncensored] The American Trip Exhibition Catalog

Toronto: The Power Plant, 1996. First edition. 9 x 11 ¾ in. Offset perfect bound exhibition catalog. 64pp. Design by Adams + Associated Design Consultants. Very good, some minor wear to edges and wraps. Item #6413

Rare, uncensored example - unlike most issues pages 20 and 21 are not glued together.

Exhibition catalog published on the occasion of the 1996 group show “The American Trip” at The Power Plant in Toronto. Curated by Philip Monk, the show featured work by Larry Clark, Nan Goldin, Cady Noland, and Richard Prince, and focused on the theme of the outlaw in America through explorations of sexuality, drug use, subculture, and pop culture.

Notably, due to legal issues surrounding some of Larry Clark’s photographs, the gallery was forced to retract a spread of his work by gluing facing pages 20 and 21 together as a way to avoid destroying the already printed run of catalogs. The catalog was later reprinted with the spread removed completely. This copy was not glued, and the widely retracted Clark spread can be seen in its original state.
