The Family Acid: California.

Mill Valley, CA: Ozma Records, 2019. First edition. 192pp. 9 ½ x 12 ½ in. Clothbound with cover photograph pasted on. Near fine. Item #6263

Photobook of pyschedelia, hippies, and bohemia in California throughout the decades from the photographer, historian and poet known for the influential radio show, Reggae Beat.

Published by Ozma Records, the book includes hundreds of color images taken between 1968 – 2015, with captions by photographer Roger Steffens, along with an introductory essay.

The photographs specifically chronicle Steffens’ family including his wife Mary and their children Kate and Devon throughout their adventures across California. Steffens immersed himself in countercultural and psychedelic communities touring his one-man show “Poetry for People Who Hate Poetry”, and working as an actor, poet, historian, author, lecturer, radio DJ, and photographer. Most well-known for his published oral history of Bob Marley and his award-winning radio show “Reggae Beat,” Steffens’ impact on the counterculture was widespread.

This photobook is a document of his continued explorations of the transcendent, and a reflection on his role as a family man.
