New York, NY: Esther T Rand, 1965. Mimeograph double-sided flyer invite. 8 ½ x 14 in. Very good condition, creased from folding, bumps and creases to edges. Item #5978

Mailer invitation for a private screening on Sunday, March 28, 1965 of the 1964 Soviet musical film “Song Over Moscow”, held at 1600 Broadway, 4th floor. The film was directed by Herbert Rappaport with music by Dmitri Shostakovich, and originally released as “Cherry Town”, also known as Song Over Moscow in America. Based on a play by Shostakovich, the film had only been shown in New York at Cameo for two weeks, thus making this screening an exciting and rare opportunity for those interested in viewing it. The flyer advertises the film by describing it as, “with charming songs, with delightful dances, with an entertaining story and plot about real people in a housing project”. The screening was organized by Esther T Rand, a founding member of the Metropolitan Council on Housing.
