Pittsburgh Gay News no. 18

Pittsburgh: Gay Alternatives, 1975. Offset folio with black and white photos and illustrations throughout text. 8 ¼ x 12 in. 24 pp. Some edge wear, otherwise very good. Item #5727

The Pittsburgh Gay News, published between 1973-1976 by Gay Alternatives, was the first gay newspaper in Pittsburgh. This issue includes a Gay Community Calendar, political and local news including a ‘national roundup’ of developments in queer activism including homophobia in the Watergate Tapes, an opinion piece dissecting the role of drugs and alcohol in the gay community, and advertisements for local LGBT-affiliated businesses. A compelling and often playful snapshot of urban gay life during a period of immense change.
