Comical Funnies no. 2

New York, New York: 1981. Offset printed on newsprint. 11 ½ x 17 in. Very good condition, edgewear and chipping to spine, yellowing to edges. Item #5221

Alternative comics publication started in 1980 by Punk Magazine designers Bagge and Holmstrom, which ran for three issues. Bagge attended SVA, which at the time was the epicenter of alternative comics in New York, and Comical Funnies displays some of his classmates’ work including Ken Weiner, Kaz, Drew Friedman, JD King, and others. After the short lived run of 3 issues, John Holmstrom began the wildly successful “Stop”, while Bagge took over editorial control of “Weirdo” after R. Crumb’s departure. A document of a pivotal moment in New York underground comics.
