Shirley Graham DuBois was an American author, playwright, composer, and Black activist. She was married to W.E.B. DuBois, one of America’s most celebrated sociologists, historians, and civil rights activists. DuBois wrote this letter praising and congratulating Olympic athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos for their Black Power demonstration at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics; The Black Panther printed it in their December 21, 1968 edition.
