Spoken word record of Beat Generation luminary William S. Burroughs reading excerpts of his work including Naked Lunch (1959) and Nova Express (1964). Burroughs’ writing, specifically Nova Express, was created using the cut-up technique, an aleatory writing method of cutting up and reassembled that Burroughs devised along with artist Brion Gysin and computer programmer Ian Sommerville, who produced and engineered this record. Jean-Jacques Lebel, owner of the English Bookshop in Paris, assembled the team and let them record in his bookshop's basement, and ultimately released the record. Liner notes include two essays, one written in French by Lebel and the other in English by Fluxus poet Emmett Williams. For many years, this was the only Burroughs recording available, with a pressing of 1,000 copies, making it highly sought after by Burroughs fanatics.
