In 1941, right after the second world war, German photographer Fred Stein and his family immigrated to New York City from Paris. Stein was embarking a new era in the United States; a time of optimism and opportunity. Stein became interested in the diverse culture in the city and he explored every part of it with his Leica camera in hand at all times. This book contains 100 black and white photographs that focuses on the cosmopolitan mixture of people, races, and classes along 5th Avenue in the late 1940's.
