Sex Sells is a magazine produced by artist and musician Brenden Fowler. An interview-based project, Fowler aimed to edit the conversations he had over a 20- month period as little as possible, striving for documentation in the purest sense. Issue Number 2 contains these frank interviews with a variety of creatives, including Ian Williams (famous for his finger-tapping guitar playing in Don Caballero, Battles), Steve Keene (a visual artist famous for his emphasis on mass producing hand-painted paintings), Twist/Barry McGee (a pioneering artist who transitioned his graffiti work into the gallery space), Al Johnson (U.S. Maple, Shorty), Daniel Carter (free jazz artist), KAWS (street artist turned pop culture phenomenon), Ian Svenonius (Nation Of Ulysses), and Shephard Fairey (street artist who went on to create the famous Obama “Hope” portrait). Sex Sells toys with form, walking the line between book and zine; although 164 pages and perfectly bound, the content and structure harken back to a legacy of music and art fanzines.
