Not to be confused with with the modern People, People Today was a bi-weekly magazine founded in 1950s and published in the following decade. Much of the magazine’s content was concerned with musicians, athletes, actresses, and models, there were also articles concerned with issues of the time. This issue features actress Dawn Addams on the cover, and includes a cover story about “sex changlings,” a term used to describe individuals who had undergone sex-reassignment surgery. Such stories, somewhat sensationalized, were popular in 1950s newspapers and magazines--the article states that the subject was becoming “the most persistently startling world news” alongside the hydrogen bomb.
