Marcia Resnick at Susan Penzner Gallery

New York: Susan Penzner, 1976. Offset postcard with photographic illustration on front. (4 ½ x 6 in.). Very good condition. Light yellowing around edges of verso and small signs of wear commensurate with age. Item #4079

Printed by Claxton Associates. This promotional postcard was produced by Susan Penzner Gallery for an exhibition of the work of Marcia Resnick in 1976. Susan Penzner operated a gallery out of her uptown apartment and was involved in the downtown art scene that shaped 1970s and 1980s New York. In 1975, Penzner was the curator of “Self-Portraits”, one of three exhibitions in the Fine Arts Building in the fall of 1975, the third of which was “Lives”—curated by Jeffrey Deitch and including Marcia Resnick among many others—the only one of the three to have a published catalog.

Though Penzner left the art world in the years that followed for a career in commercial real estate, this postcard captures a moment of transition, as young conceptual artists grappled with the world around them and found their place.
