Special issue of Mohawk Nation newspaper documenting the first month of occupation and protest at Wounded Knee. Akwesasne Notes was published eight times a year and includes editorials, news reports, photographs, cartoons, and more pertaining to life at the Mohawk Nation and struggles or news from Native American reservations across the country. This issue deals exclusively with the conflict at Wounded Knee including a historical account of the events leading up to the occupation and updates and reflections from the ground after the first month. Due to the misinformation and propaganda from major news outlets and the government, this special issue was an attempt to properly report the events from those involved in the struggle.
