Poster. (24 ⅞ x 22 ¼ in.)

Printed by Permild and Rosengreen, Denmark
Published by Folke Edwards for Lunds Konsthall, Sweden

A promotional advert for the artist's 1969 exhibition at Lunds Konsthall, Sweden, this Sture Johannesson poster boasts a peculiar rarity, as the exhibition "Underground" never occurred. While it was first discussed and arranged in 1968, the posters that surrounded the opening were deemed too provocative and compelled the institution to cancel the exhibition entirely. Such an event further prompted the director of Lunds Konstall to resign and Johannesson to retreat from the art scene entirely. The exhibition was finally revived and realized in 2004 under the title “Counterclockwise Circumambulation.”

This graphics for the poster were sourced from original artwork by Pablo Picasso and photographs by Ove Hallin.
